Child-Centered Vision

A child-centered vision puts the child in the center of learning instead of the teacher in hopes of providing a safe, joyful, and effortless learning community.

Corbett Prep's "Children First" continues as the guiding principle as established in 1968 through the energy and vision of Marilyn Gatlin and Betty Anderson, our founders. Regularly, the Board of Trustees re-examines the original philosophy, which results in a reaffirmation of a philosophy that has stood the test of time.

APPRECIATING THE UNIQUENESS OF THE LEARNER

Understanding that all children learn differently, having different learning, processing, behavioral, and gifted styles, as well as recognizing the multiple intelligences, including moral and emotional, is the foundation for creating a learning environment in which all students find success.

MOTIVATIONAL STRATEGIES TO INCREASE TIME ON TASK

The more time students spend on task, the more they learn. Teachers employ motivational, brain-friendly strategies to increase time on task. This aspect of the M.O.R.E. Model supplies teachers with an array of strategies to capture student interest and mix fun into learning.

Creating Dignity and Respect

A positive mindset and positive phrasing are at the heart of all interactions at Corbett Prep. Creating an atmosphere of dignity and respect begins with the faculty and staff communicating what they want students to do and involves providing them with options and solutions rather than dwelling on obstacles.

Corbett Prep uses cooperative learning models, team teaching, and communication strategies that enhance group dynamics to create a synergistic, cohesive, and successful learning community. Teachers, parents, and students make up our vibrant learning community. TEACHER PRESENCE, MAKING CONNECTIONS

Research supports the long-held belief that the teacher makes the difference in setting the tone, culture, and academic success of the class. Teacher presence represents the positive non-verbal behaviors and mental set that send a message to the student about the teacher's intention and expresses confidence in the learner. The teacher’s presence should convey “I care.”
