CAMP IDS students in kindergarten through middle school come to experience what it takes to put on a production in this intensive musical theatre camp. In just two weeks, they learn their lines, songs, dances and set changes. The students will perform Through the Looking Glass on June 22 and 23 at Corbett Prep.
To foster a love of music, our program gives all students the chance to explore making music in a variety of ways.
All students have the opportunity to participate in musical activities twice a week, learning music fundamentals and exploring music of many cultures and historical periods. Students sing and learn drums, recorders, band instruments, Orff instruments, electronic keyboards, and computer programs.
Students who choose to take their musical experience to a more advanced level may join the Spirit of IDS Chorus (3rd grade), Warriors’ Pride Chorus (4th -5th grades), Middle School Musical Theatre (6th- 8th grades), and Beginning and Advanced Bands (5th-8th grades). Middle School students may also participate in the All-State Chorus Prep club, where they prepare for auditions for the highly competitive choral group that performs at the Florida Music Education Association conference. These enrichment opportunities give students even more experiences to embrace and develop their musical talents.
Many students also choose to further their students with private or group lessons in voice or instruments after school in Corbett Prep's Community School of the Arts.
Since December, 59 fourth and fifth graders in the Warriors' Pride Chorus have worked to bring beloved storybook characters to the stage in the imaginative musical Seussical Kids. The fourth- and fifth-grade students in chorus appear in all performances, taking turns in the larger roles. The green cast is showcased at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. April 10. The purple cast production is at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. April 12.
Four Corbett Prep musicians were among top students selected from across Florida to perform recently in All-State ensembles.
