Academics
Happy Students. Serious Education.
At Corbett Prep, we believe each child's learning experience should be fresh, relevant, and even exciting.
Teams of third and fourth graders scour the school grounds, thrilled when they discover the hidden treasure, and then return to their classes to compare their experiences to early explorers. First and second graders work cooperatively to code robots to weave through mazes in the App Lab.
In kindergarten, Space Day starts with a bang, as students watch a model rocket blast off before heading inside to navigate astronaut activities in several centers. On the Middle School campus, sixth graders tinker with solar cars they designed to see how far they can race them, while seventh graders rehearse their original poetry to present at Poetry Coffeehouse and eighth graders Zoom with students in Finland about a collaborative project on sustainable living.
As an International Baccalaureate school, we embrace inquiry-based and reflective learning while also developing lessons designed to spark imagination and cultivate a lifelong love of learning.
Engaging Academics
Hands-on, brain-based learning opportunities
Our Academic Divisions
Corbett Prep has four different academic divisions:
- Early Primary (PreK3, PreK4, kindergarten)
- Upper Primary (first and second grades)
- Intermediate (third and fourth grades)
- Middle School (fifth through eighth grades)
Our primary and intermediate students are part of the elementary school on the east side of Corbett Prep's Orange Grove Drive campus. Middle School students have their own classroom building, gymnasium and cafeteria on the west side of campus.
All elementary students attend Specials classes (art, music, drama/dance, Spanish, physical education, App Lab) as part of their regular schedule. In the Middle School, students have Design, Spanish and physical education year-round and rotate through Music, Art and Drama each trimester in the Fine Arts Wheel.
Our Student Success Department works with teachers to ensure each student is challenged at the appropriate level, providing extra help where needed or stretching them with enrichment opportunities to go above and beyond.
Independent Spirit The Advantages of an Independent School
Parents weigh several factors when choosing a school for their children, but the independent school philosophy appeals to many families looking for an education that considers the student as a whole. Independent schools have a reputation for academic rigor, highly skilled teachers, a close and active parent community, hands-on lessons, and individualized attention to students' needs.
As an independent school, Corbett Prep has the ability to make its own decisions and create programs that reflect its values using multiple best practices in education.
