Teams of third and fourth graders scour the school grounds, thrilled when they discover the hidden treasure, and then return to their classes to compare their experiences to early explorers. First and second graders wade into the lake, scooping tiny shrimp, snails and minnows into containers to analyze as part of a unit on biomes.
Space Day starts with a bang, literally, as PreK4 and kindergarten watch a model rocket blast off before heading inside to navigate astronaut activities in several centers. Middle School students, meanwhile, may snorkel the Rainbow River to experience Florida's aquifer and then another day stand on stage, reciting original and classic poems during Poetry Coffeehouse.
Learning is active and engaging at Corbett Prep.
Our curriculum is built around authentic experiential, inquiry-based, and reflective learning, helping students uncover facts, relationships, and truths for themselves and promoting autonomy, responsibility, and problem-solving skills. Creativity is a core feature of our curriculum. We encourage students to embrace their imagination as an important part of their educational journey.
About the curriculum
Curriculum is keyed to national and state standards, and Corbett Prep students consistently score above national averages. At the same time, students’ curiosity, inquiry, and a focus on high expectations help shape the curriculum with teachers serving as mentors, guides, and role models. All classes are founded on best practices and the International Baccalaureate Inquiry Model.
Research continues to reveal more about how students learn. Teachers study weekly as a faculty to stay current with the most effective teaching methods to help all students soar. Teacher implementation of the M.O.R.E. Approach (Multiple Options for Results in Education) promotes excitement and involvement in all aspects of student life by utilizing strategies such as cooperative learning, high-level critical thinking skills, multiple intelligences, integrated curriculum, international perspectives, and an emphasis on character and community service.
Our book It’s All About Kids: Every Child Deserves a “Teacher of the Year” describes how the school combines the best in academics with social, emotional, and physical well being. At Corbett Preparatory School of IDS, young people develop the skills and knowledge – as well as the positive outlooks – they need to prosper in higher education and in life.
Social and Emotional Learning
Corbett Prep is working closely with the Contentment Foundation to pilot internationally a program called the 4 Pillars of Wellbeing. This was an outgrowth of the relationship Corbett Prep developed with the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and complements the many strategies at Corbett Prep for encouraging a climate of dignity and respect.Read More
