Prekindergarten is the first major milestone in a long educational journey. It's an exciting time of growth for students as they make discoveries, form new friendships and become more self-sufficient.

For parents, it's time to start letting go.

Small, simple steps can go a long way toward helping children build independence and start the school year with confidence. Corbett Prep's PreK3 team has compiled a list of skills that they recommend parents work on during the summer before PreK begins. Opening a lunchbox without an adult's help, recognizing personal items and sitting quietly during story time are important accomplishments for young students and benefit from practice.

Teachers shared 10 easy ways to prepare for PreK with Tampa Bay Parenting magazine. You'll find them published in the May issue and online.
