PreK3 IB Unit Teaches "All About Me"

PreK3 is immersed in their All About Me unit as they learn about the five senses! A few of their upcoming activities include matching sounds, going on a walk around campus pointing out what they see, and feeling different textures! Next week they will be tasting different kinds of food, from sour to sweet and every taste in between! PreK3 Teachers continue to strive to provide hands-on and totally immersive sensory experiences for Corbett Prep's youngest learners.

Prepare for Parent-Teacher Conferences: Booking Opens Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Our goal is always to connect with 100 percent of our families! Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 6, Thursday, Oct. 7 and Friday, Oct. 8 will be "school-free days" while teachers meet and update parents on student progress. Be sure to check in with your teachers if you have any questions about procedures for conference sign–up times. Conferences will be available for sign-up in the Parent Portal beginning this Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 9 a.m. These conferences will have options for both in-person and Zoom meetings. During the conference, teachers will share student strengths, areas needing improvement, and ways to always "raise the bar."

We always suggest to our parents that they identify and prioritize key questions or information that should be shared in order to ensure that those areas have been addressed. Some sample questions may include:

  • How effective are my child's work habits?
  • How do they use their time?
  • What are the expectations for homework?
  • What can I do at home to help my child succeed at school?
  • What is the level of effort, initiative, and perseverance that my child demonstrates at school?

Be prepared to share any additional information that you want the teacher to know about your child.

MEETING WITH SPECIALS: All of our Specials will also be available to meet for conferences. Please use the Parent Portal to sign up for conferences with individual Specials Teachers. It is the same pathway as families will be using to sign up with classroom Teachers.

Thank you to all our families who have made conference times with our Teachers! You help our goal of reaching 100% of our families!

All Grades Ready for National Hispanic Heritage Month

Our fantasticos students from PreK to 8th grade are getting ready to celebrate the National Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. This is an opportunity for our community to recognize people of various races, from more than 21 different nations around the world who share a related cultural heritage and their contributions to humanity in many different fields. This first formal recognition was originally observed as "Hispanic Heritage Week" made by the Congress in 1968, but it was extended to a month in 1988. Since then, the month has been celebrated nationwide through festivals, conferences, art shows, community gatherings, and much more. Stay tuned for more details on how our students participate in this celebration. Check out these ideas on how to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at home!

App Lab Update: A Thrilling Ride!

Watch this video as 5th graders explore the relationship between kinetic and potential energy by building paper roller coasters in the Tomlin Family Application Lab. To start the unit, students were introduced to the University of Colorado at Boulder's Phet Energy Park simulator where they virtually tested kinetic and potential energy. Now they have begun the process of building a paper roller coaster. After a small test, the class will attempt a bigger, longer and more complex coaster.
