HIGHLIGHTS SHARED FROM AROUND OUR CAMPUS

LIFT OFF!! From Ms. Tracey Price ... Third Grade Navigators, Fourth Grade Going Places, and All-Stars took flight on Friday, September 14, to journey through and explore the past, present, and future of NASA by traveling to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

Making connections to our current IB (International Baccalaureate) unit of study Where We Are in Place and Time and the central idea "Exploration leads to discovery, which can cause change," students were able to explore firsthand the Rocket Garden and walk around the base of historic rockets. In addition, our curious explorers had the opportunity to come face to face with the Atlantis shuttle and learn the compelling history of the shuttle programs.

Other choices included touring on the NASA bus to view the launching pads around the complex or even experience an astronaut encounter. To add to the delight and amazement of the journey, students took a class and learned about rocket fuel and engaged in hands-on activities to enhance their knowledge about concepts such as gravity, space travel, and space tools. Students also learned that the qualities of early astronauts reflected many of our learner profiles of open-mindedness and inquirer and attitudes of curiosity and enthusiasm. The experience was "out of this world" as it inspired students to believe that dreams and imaginations can become possible.

THE SCIENCE of CHARACTER: From Ms. Jennifer Jagdmann... September finished with a tremendous day celebrating character! Character Day was created by Let It Ripple Film Studios, and this year marked their fourth annual Character Day! There were more than 130,000 events happening in 119 countries such as Guam, Russia, Thailand, Central Africa Republic and many more!

Corbett Prep was honored to be part of the Character Day Celebration! This day continued our focus on character education, which kicked off earlier this year with the annual Middle School Retreat. Our special Character Day half day included viewing short films, debriefing with advisory groups, being introduced to our Warrior Award. We will continue with character education lessons in classes and advisories throughout the year. Our Middle School students and teachers shared a great day of engagement and commitment to the continued creation of a positive culture and climate.

BIENVENIDOS AMIGOS DE ESPAÑA! From Señora Alejandra Izquierdo... On Saturday night September 29, Corbett Prep students and their families welcomed with open arms, huge smiles, and a lot of excitement, students and Teachers from Colegios Ramon y Cajal, who arrived from Madrid, Spain.

Once again, the Corbett Preparatory School of IDS community has the honor of hosting visitors for our International Study program. Students from 4th grade through 8th grade and their teachers will be here for another opportunity of making meaningful international connections. We have gratitude for this experience! We will be going to their school in Madrid in March. Look for more travel information coming in November.

AS ALWAYS, WE SEND A HUGE THANK YOU TO OUR FAMILIES FOR HONORING PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE DAYS!

Our teachers are always so grateful for the opportunity to meet with so many parents during the marathon days of conferences. Last week provided that opportunity. Connecting with our parents creates the team that focuses totally on the success of each Corbett Prep student. Some teachers were even able to brag about meeting with 100 percent of the families.

A big Bravo also goes to the Middle School for continuing an amazing system to move parents from one subject to another to be able to meet successfully with their multiple teachers. It's quite a unique experience. The energy and high-level connections made were truly admirable and created pride on all sides!
