SCHOOL RESUMES AFTER SPRING BREAK ON MONDAY, MARCH 25!
Teachers will be here on Thursday and Friday for in-service to prepare for an amazing Trimester 3! We are all looking forward to another few hours with Dr. Susannah Richards on Thursday morning. Bravo and gratitude to all of the parents who joined us for Tuesday's in-service to learn from Dr. Richards. She is a wealth of information and so passionate about sharing the excitement that comes with a plethora of options to ensure that a love of literacy permeates throughout the school.
TO ALL OF OUR FAMILIES: We wish you a WONDERFUL Spring Break filled with lots of reasons for creating gratitude, whether you are on a "go-cation" or a "stay-cation." Enjoy welcoming a beautiful time of the year!
MATIFIC FEVER ONCE AGAIN!
MATIFIC WAS TERRIFIC AS OUR STUDENTS COMPETED IN MATHEMATICS THROUGHOUT CORBETT PREP.
By Linda Wenzel, Fifth Grade Teacher & Director of Studies and Telma Largent, Teacher and Coordinator of Mathematics PreK3 through Eighth grade.
Congratulations to all our students who took the time to create the energy and enthusiasm to bring Corbett Prep into fourth place in the entire country. We are super, ultra-proud of all our students. All our students who worked from home or from school exhibited GRIT – "a personality trait possessed by individuals who demonstrate passion and perseverance toward a goal despite being confronted by significant obstacles and distractions. Those who possess grit, can self-regulate and postpone their need for positive reinforcement while working diligently on a task." And indeed, the grit level was off the charts evident throughout the school.
The competition ran from March 3-5. Students worked to earn stars. Each star they earned mattered. We maintained individual students and classes on the Matific national leaderboard during the entire competition. Both individuals and the entire school deserve to be proud of their accomplishments!

PEOPLE FAIR 2019
A 20 YEAR MIDDLE SCHOOL TRADITION...RECOGNIZING EXCELLENCE
From Walt Disney to Mother Teresa to Jackie Robinson, history's greatest figures walked the halls of Corbett Prep on Thursday, March 7 for the annual People Fair! Congratulations to the Corbett Prep Sixth Graders for a superb job sharing their knowledge with younger grades in awe of these talented middle schoolers, as well as a very appreciative parent and grandparent audience.
Students chose a person in history who has made a positive impact on the world. They then researched and prepared a presentation about their chosen person and his/her legacy. The People Fair is a cross-curricular project that integrates research skills in History/Individuals and Societies, communication and writing skills in Language and Literature, and layout and technology skills in Technology/Design. The students also incorporated the IB (International Baccalaureate) Learner Profiles by explaining which of the 10 profiles their historical figure represented, citing examples from their research.
The past truly came alive as Sixth Graders stood with presence to deliver stellar performances highlighting the outstanding achievements of these great men and women. BRAVO to the entire Sixth Grade class for their outstanding academic and personal achievements.
A special thanks to the Sixth Grade Teachers, Mr. Adrian Barnes, Ms. Cristina Ferrone, Mr. Tim Mimbs and Mr. Seth Travaglino for providing coaching and support to the students as they researched, prepared display boards, and memorized monologues for their performance. Enjoy the photos on Facebook!

ODYSSEY OF THE MIND COMPETITION: SUCCESS the FIRST TRY!
CORBETT PREP CREATIVITY SHINES AT THE BUCCANEER BAY ODYSSEY OF THE MIND TOURNAMENT:
KUDO'S TO LEAD OM COACHES SUZANNE LEVY AND CONNIE JONES!
On Saturday March 2, two Corbett Prep teams proudly represented our school at the Buccaneer Bay Odyssey of the Mind (OM) tournament held at Bloomingdale High School. With over 100 teams competing, representing six counties, the Buccaneer Bay tournament was a celebration of months of hard work on developing teamwork skills and nurturing creativity, with all teams presenting a long-term problem solution and taking on a spontaneous problem challenge. Corbett's two teams showcased engineering, creative writing, performance, set design, costuming, fine arts, quick-thinking problem solving and teamwork throughout the day.
Corbett Prep's teams made our school very proud and had tremendous results. The Division I team (elementary division), conquered a Classic problem centered around the works of Leonardo Di Vinci, finishing in third place overall in their division and earning bronze medals. This team was comprised of 3rd and 4th Grade students Emerson Freundt, Walter Levy, Samantha Reed, Nishant Shah, and Aria Sneary, and was coached by Connie Jones, Kathy Sneary-Beachy, and Suzanne Meiners-Levy. The Division II team (middle school), solved a performance problem, centered around a tale of comedic conflict, and finished in first place overall, earning gold medals and the honor of moving on to the State competition to be held on Saturday, April 4 at UCF. This team is comprised of 6th Graders Wade Jones, Andy Kozlowski, Henry Levy, JJ Shorts, Milannia Travaglino, and Sophia Winsbro, and is coached by Nell Abram and Suzanne Meiners-Levy.
Interested in learning more about OM? We would love to grow on our inaugural year and field more teams next season. We need you - both students and parent volunteer coaches - in order to realize that vision. The State competition in Orlando on April 4 at the UCF Student Union is free and open to the public and a great glimpse into what OM is all about. Alternatively, feel free to reach out to our School Coordinator Connie Jones at email@example.com to express your interest. Coach training will be offered in August and September, with 2019-20 teams forming early in the school year.
