Heads' Letter

HEADS' LETTER: Feb. 18, 2021

Community School of the Arts Presents: The Show Must Go Online!

A frazzled DRAMA TEACHER sends a video message to his students from his home office, announcing that their production of Brushes with Greatness: The Dental Hygiene Musical has been canceled! He tries to hang up, but accidentally leaves the camera running, as he receives a phone call from the principal who tells him: without the musical, the drama program will be shut down. Our Community School of the Arts (CSA) students used their creativity and teamwork to create a hilarious and entertaining virtual show on their own! Join us online at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19 for our Crest Cast and Saturday, Feb. 20 for our Colgate Cast as they present this fun show!

Pay attention to the drama teacher as you will see our surprise guest actor, who is a member of the Corbett Prep community. He is a surprise for the cast members too!

To purchase tickets to view the performances online, please use the links below. Purchasing a ticket gives you access to view the show online during a 24-hour period!

Math Competition This Weekend

This weekend, 30 students from third to eighth grade are going above and beyond to participate in the Perennial Math Problem Solving Tournament! Perennial Math was created by an Alabama teacher specializing in gifted education to offer students more venues to showcase their talents through challenging problem-solving scenarios.

We would like to take this opportunity to celebrate these students for living the Olympic mentality of the best getting better! Results will be announced in next week's Heads Letter. In other math competition news, seventh grader Rohit qualified to advance to the Chapter Invitational Mathcounts Competition on Feb. 24! Please wish all of our math competitors good luck!

Excited to Maintain Our Corbett Prep Traditions

On Thursday, March 11, all seventh and eighth-grade students will participate in the 23rd Annual Corbett Prep Poetry Coffeehouse! The Poetry Coffeehouse has grown into an exciting event that delights audiences of all ages. Students have been working hard this month studying and writing poetry, finalizing their poems, memorizing their lines, and using class time to bring their poetry to life. More details will be coming soon.

Parent-Faculty Association (PFA) News

By PFA President Lauren Lipschutz

The PFA, in conjunction with the Big Event committee, is excited to announce this year's spring fundraiser - THE HYBRID HULA - will take place on Saturday, May 8! The Big Event is a long-standing tradition for Corbett Prep, and we are thrilled to offer it this year Corbett style, in a way that everyone can participate. The luau and fundraiser will take place at Corbett Prep (of course following all current COVID-19 protocols) as well as virtually. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more information on how you can sponsor, donate, and get involved!

Noon Dismissal/Teacher Inservice: Feb. 24

Corbett Prep will dismiss students at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 24 for teacher professional development. It is important to pick up your children by 12 p.m. to allow our teachers to have lunch and begin in-service training promptly.

EXTENDED DAY PROVIDED on Wednesday, Feb. 24 from noon to 6 p.m. This service is offered to families who need a later pick-up and have no other option. We are asking that all families who are able to pick up their children at dismissal to please do so. This will assist us with our continued focus on physical distancing and additional safety practices. Extended Day is by pre-registration only! All children need to be registered for Extended Day by Monday, Feb. 22 prior to being allowed. Walk-ups will not be allowed.

COVID-19 safety modifications to Extended Day will be in place:

  • Students will be spread throughout campus in smaller age-level groups following safety recommendations to provide physical distancing.
  • Children in Extended Day will be mixing with students beyond their daily classroom cohorts.
  • All students will be in age-level division cohorts. These new groupings will still have the same physical distancing and mask requirements as required throughout the day.

The program includes opportunities for supervised recreation and time for homework. A snack and beverage will be provided daily to each student. The cost for the afternoon will be $15, regardless of the length of stay (except for those on the yearly Extended Day plan). An afternoon snack and bottled water will be provided. All students attending Extended Day are required to bring LUNCH.

Reminder - Parents needing this special Extended Day session, please REGISTER through the Parent Portal by Monday, Feb. 22. If you are on the annual or semi-annual Extended Day plan, half days are already included.

Pick-up Procedures: Parents must remain in their cars for pick-up. Students will be brought to you by a member of our Extended Day team. Please have your car tag visible.

Admissions Open House

Share the gift of a Corbett Prep education with your friends and family! Invite them to join our special, interactive LIVE Virtual Open House at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23. From wherever they are, prospective parents who register for this Zoom session will meet Head of School Nick Rodriguez and other school leaders, "tour" both sides of our beautiful campus, view classrooms, our visual art and music rooms, the STEAM-inspired Tomlin App Lab, and more! They will learn about the child-centered philosophy and the research behind the brain-based teaching strategies that have made Corbett Prep the leader in PreK3-8th grade a private, independent school education in Tampa for 52 years!

Want to share this special opportunity with your friends and family?

Share our Virtual Admissions page with them, where they can see photos and videos of campus life, read about our approach to education and learn the steps in the admissions process. From that page, they can register online for the Open House. They can also call (813) 961-3087 to RSVP or for more information.

You can also provide us their contact information. Email us or call (813) 961-3087, and we will reach out to them with a personal invitation for you!

We appreciate your support as #ONECOMMUNITY in sharing our exciting virtual Open House event!
