Social Studies teacher Adrian Barnes and a volunteer diversity committee made up of Corbett Prep teachers and parents organized the Diversity and Global Awareness Initiative. They planned the seminar to spark honest, meaningful conversations and introduce students to new perspectives.
The Middle School student theatre group presented the one-act musical during the district competition on Oct. 27 for Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota students. Corbett Prep's presentation won Critics' Choice, earning the students a trip to the state Florida Junior Thespian Competition early next year.
Thespian Troupe 88622 will present a "tale as old as time" Oct. 12 and 13. Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr. is Corbett Prep's entry into the Florida Junior Thespian Mainstage Competition, new this year for middle schools. A professional panel of judges is visiting middle schools across the state to screen full-length productions this fall for a chance to perform at the state thespian competition.
Dr. Susannah Richards sparked a love of literacy in students and teachers alike on Corbett Prep's annual Young Authors Day. As the featured speaker, she spoke to every grade before the backdrop of a cozy bookstore, holding books high and spilling their secrets to capture her audience's attention. Richards is a national leader in English language arts and young adult literature whom Corbett Prep teachers connected with during summer conferences on gifted education.
A Corbett Prep fourth grader is making his Broadway debut in Kinky Boots. He is the second Corbett Prep student to appear on Broadway this year.
Nearly 1,000 alumni, teachers, families and students filled the campus on Aug. 18, 2018 for a special 50th anniversary celebration for Corbett Prep/Independent Day School.
Guests enjoyed browsing photos, yearbooks and other memorabilia in the Farish Center. A special program followed in Gatlin Hall that honored long-time teachers Gery Morey, Kathy Folen and Debi Brockmeyer, retired teacher Judy Sobel, board member Bette Maniscalco and retiring Associate Headmaster Pam Ripple.

THE ANNUAL CORBETT PREP FALL BOOK FAIR will take place at Barnes & Noble on North Dale Mabry Highway beginning Monday, Nov. 26 through Monday, Dec. 3. The feel of holding a book is still so special and certainly a break from screen time! All proceeds go directly to our Laney Library. Students in Early and Upper Primary are invited to join us for Primary Night at Barnes & Noble on Wednesday, Nov. 28. The highlight of our Primary Night will be a performance by our spectacular Spirit of IDS Chorus at 6 p.m.
