Corbett Prep Drama/Dance Teacher Julie Nelson traveled to New York in November to see one of her students appear on Broadway. A few months later, the fourth grader returned to Tampa with a surprise for his influential teacher.
This peahen spent Mother's Day sitting on her baby peacock eggs at Corbett Prep. Peacocks have called Corbett Prep/Independent Day School their home for 50 years. Middle School Science Teacher Gery Morey says farmers first brought the peacocks to the Carrollwood neighborhood as watchdogs for their orange groves.
Whether they helped in classrooms or with events, planned cookouts, filled Thursday Folders, chaperoned field trips, built sets for plays or served on committees, volunteers make Corbett Prep special.
Three casts featuring more than 80 students from the Tampa Bay area are appearing in the Broadway classic Cats. The students are enrolled in Corbett Prep's Community School of the Arts, which offers performing arts opportunities as well as music, drama and dance lessons to students at Corbett Prep and the greater community.
The Warriors' Pride Chorus provides opportunities for fourth and fifth graders who would like to pursue music at a more advanced level. The chorus produces a musical each year, allowing students to gain experience on the stage, singing, dancing and acting. Students can also take on leadership roles in stage management and technical theatre.
Published annually, the Corbett Prep Press highlights some of the dynamic, meaningful, and creative educational experiences that occur at Corbett Prep every day and contribute to the school’s joyful, brain-friendly learning environment.

In addition, embedded in learning are opportunities and lessons designed to develop wisdom, mindfulness, self-reflection, and a lifelong learning mentality. We also want our students to experience the joy of giving to others and contributing to the greater community.
