Support and Sportsmanship Abound at 11th Annual
Student-Faculty Challenge

Corbett Prep sports teams and staff have faced each other in friendly competition for 11 years.

Jan. 10, 2014 (TAMPA, Fla.) – Corbett Prep spirit was in full force at the Student-Faculty Challenge, an annual event that brings together families and staff for fun with a competitive twist.

Corbett Preparatory School of IDS has hosted the challenge for 11 years, and it epitomizes the supportive relationships between students and their teachers inside and outside of the classroom. It grew out of a student’s idea into an experience involving the entire school.

The result, Coach Rob Heller says, is a great family event that allows students to interact with teachers during a friendly competition in which each side really wants to win.

“The kids love to get the opportunity to compete against the adults,” Heller says. “It’s great to see the energetic fan support as our younger students root on the eighth graders or teachers. It is great to see our teachers giving their time on a Friday night to support the school, and it’s great to see the support we get from our students and their families. It is simply a great night.”

Students of all ages had the chance to participate in various games and activities, in addition to the highly anticipated games between teachers and the eighth-grade volleyball and basketball teams. PreK3 through second grade got moving in the Primary Olympiad, the Dance Team performed and students faced off in Hula Hoop and Hot Shot contests.

Middle School cheerleaders and their coaches reached out to younger students who wanted to cheer and hosted a mini-cheer camp for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The students joined in a training camp the week of the challenge to learn cheers, chants, stunts and dances and performed in the pre-game show and cheered at the basketball game.

The Student-Faculty Challenge embodies Corbett Prep’s approach to teamwork and its desire to create an atmosphere that inspires students to stretch themselves and explore new talents. Proceeds from the event benefit the school’s athletic teams.
