Why IB?

Corbett Preparatory School of IDS was founded on and remains devoted to the ideal that a happy child — one who is given respect as a unique human being and allowed to fulfill their needs to play, to investigate, and to be themselves — is more open to learning than a child who is unhappy, tense, and fearful. We consider it our responsibility to foster students' capacity for learning, to help them grow morally, spiritually, and emotionally as well as physically and intellectually.

To continue this mission with academic rigor and a global perspective, Corbett Prep sought out the International Baccalaureate Programme in 2005. We were thrilled to find that the programme was a natural fit with our existing philosophy. The IB’s focus on inquiry, conceptual learning, and international mindedness brought Corbett to the next level in education.

The IB gives students distinct advantages by building their critical-thinking skills, nurturing their curiosity and preparing them to solve complex problems. IB teachers strive to inspire a healthy appetite for learning and excellence as they develop students who will build a better world through intercultural understanding and respect.

Our programmes help IB students

  • ask challenging questions
  • think critically
  • learn across disciplines
  • develop research skills proven to help them in higher education.

Corbett Prep offers two IB programmes, which share a focus on international-mindedness and developing the attributes of the IB learner profile. All IB programmes require students to complete a culminating project that showcases the knowledge, understanding, and skills they have gained.

Each programme also has its own identity and developmentally appropriate qualities. Learn more about the Primary Years Programme and the Middle Years Programme:

Corbett Prep invests in the IB Programme to benefit from its quality training, continuous improvement, high levels of inquiry, reflection in learning, and guidelines that require ongoing dialogues among teachers of different grades and subjects to balance interdisciplinary learning across subject areas while maintaining subject-area depth.

Another value is that every five years an evaluation team from IB arrives to monitor our progress and status, which provides another opportunity to validate our efforts to create quality for our Corbett Prep students as well as receive ideas for maintaining a continuous improvement model. That thinking is what keeps Corbett Prep faculty and staff continuously challenged, proud of their accomplishments, and involved in a strong and dedicated learning community.

Learner Profile

The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who recognize their common humanity and strive to create a better and more peaceful world. The IB Learner Profile represents 10 attributes that IB World Schools value. IB educators help students to develop these attributes and demonstrate them in increasingly robust and sophisticated ways as they mature.
