Visual Arts Education
The diversity of artwork Corbett Prep students produce during a single school year reflects their creativity and inspires discussions about the broad applications of art.
The Corbett Prep Visual Arts program is based on the concepts of the elements and principles of design. This facilitates learning the language of art and design and exposes students to concrete concepts to apply to their artistic efforts.
Our curriculum provides a sequential study that applies to all developmental levels and also provides ease of integration into other academic areas. Drawing a flower, for example, can teach about symmetry and fractions as students see how something is divided into third, fourths, and fifths. Students learn how art ties into their daily lives as well as study art history and the work of notable artists.
It is our hope that our students develop and strengthen personal creativity and self-confidence as they enjoy the creative process. Our goal is for the students to continually improve in the areas of technical skills, aesthetics, art appreciation, and understanding the social and cultural significance of visual art.
