March 11, 2013 (Tampa, FL)— Twenty-three Corbett Preparatory School of IDS middle school students and their teachers traveled to Melbourne, Florida, to compete in the Florida Junior Thespian State Festival, the largest middle school thespian competition in the world. Each member of the Corbett Prep Troupe 88622 earned a medal!

The Corbett Prep cast presented ten acts that included both musical and acting performances. Competing against 140 other troupes that included 1100 different acts, the students earned medals ranging from excellent to superior. Five acts earned superior, the highest of scores: Duet Musical “ I Will Never Leave You” from Side Show, Duet Acting Save Me a Place at Forest Lawn, Monologue “Little Red Riding Hood,” Monologue “Lives of the Great Waitresses,” and Large Group Musical “Shakin’ at the High School Hop”
from Grease.

The students were under the direction of Corbett Prep Thespian sponsors: Emilia Sargent, theatre director and science teacher; Jeanne Rivera, dance and math teacher; Barbara McBride, music and chorus teacher; and Michael Vokoun, English, drama, and forensics teacher.

Director Emilia Sargent, an accomplished actor herself, said, “The students earned their medals due to their effort, persistence, and work ethic. We are so pleased they were rewarded for their efforts!”
