Community School of the Arts Performs
Alice in Wonderland Jr. at Corbett Prep
Two casts of Tampa Bay area students will perform showings of the musical from Dec. 69.
Dec. 6, 2013 (TAMPA, Fla.) – Follow the White Rabbit and Alice through a series of wondrous adventures as student actors from the Community School of the Arts perform Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Jr. at Corbett Preparatory School of IDS.
Sixty students in PreK4 through eighth grade are participating in this stellar production, which is double cast to provide maximum opportunities for actors to shine. The six performances run from Dec. 69.
Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Jr. is full of classic songs from the original film including “I’m Late” and “The Unbirthday Song,” as well as other great Disney tunes such as “ZipADeeDooDah.”
Since 2002, Community School of the Arts has provided an outlet for creative expression for students, starting at age 3 and adults. CSA classes — which take place at Corbett Prep but are open to the entire community — include guided exploration for young children, traditional classes and lessons, innovative seminars and numerous performing opportunities. For Alice, the student cast members have spent four hours every Saturday since September rehearsing music, acting and choreography to bring to life Lewis Carroll’s novels The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass.
Tickets are $10. Showtimes are as follows and will take place at Corbett Prep, 12015 Orange Grove Dr., Tampa:
- 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6
- 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7
- 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8
- 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9
“Alice in Wonderland is a wild and zany trip into the mind of a child and all the possibilities that come from creative thinking,” said Seth Travaglino, one of the directors. “The cast is enjoying the challenge of performing ‘in the round’ versus a traditional proscenium style performance. The uniqueness of the characters and all that it allows for actors is a joy to perform.”
When Alice chases a White Rabbit with a pocket watch, she suddenly finds herself in a magical place called Wonderland. Wonderland is inhabited by a curious collection of characters. There’s the mysterious grinning Cheshire Cat who appears and disappears suddenly. There are the jabbering twins, Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, who attempt to teach Alice manners. A Mad Hatter hosts an unbirthday tea party that is more like a game of musical chairs. And then there is the ruler of Wonderland, the Queen of Hearts, whose royal cardsmen are painting the white roses red.
The talented cast includes Hailey Aulicino, Kenny Beckford, Alessandra Canella, Catie Clark, Sophe Dunnivant, Ryan Foust, Emma Friedman, Noa Friedman, Rachel Garrison, Ava Hill, Amanda Hirschfeld, Maya Judd, Carissa Keen, Alex LaBohn, Hannah LaBohn, Sara Langdon, Amanda Lather, Madison LeVine, Nicholas Llerena, Dylan Mann, Julia Martin, Kailey McDonald, Amelia Mocsari, Emma Murph, Tallulah Nouss, Nitya Padmanabhan, Rishi Padmanabhan, Mackayla Payne, Caleb Quezon, Madigan Reens, Charles Lee Rossing, Aarini Saini, Olivia Sargent, Felicia Scheiner, Isabelle Schenck, Riley Schirk, Macy Selewach, Deeanna Slywka, Natalya Slywka, NinaSkyy Simms, Alex Smith, Ben Smith, Laura Smith, Madeleine Smith, Marielle Smith, Nicholas Smith, Patrick Smith, Emma Sobel, Jack Sobel, Will Sobel, Alex Sokol, Derek Sokol, Maddi Thomas, Ricky Thomas, Milannia Travaglino, Luke Wallace, Michaela Weimer and Sophia Winsbro.
