END of the 2016-17 YEAR
PROVIDED A MULTITUDE OF REASONS FOR GRATITUDE!
Corbett Prep families, you are TOTALLY AMAZING! Thank you so much for once again honoring our Teachers (with a Capital T) and staff with such generous end of the year gifts. Your kindness is both humbling and appreciated. Your recognition of the dedication and devotion that teachers and staff demonstrate both in and outside the classroom means so much to everyone. Your thoughtfulness has highlighted their strong work ethic, dynamic and inspiring lessons, teamwork, and dedication to remaining highly skilled through weekly, monthly and special training expectations. Thank you for recognizing that our Corbett Prep students are the true winners!
SPECIAL KUDOS and GRATITUDE to our RPCs (Room Parent Coordinators) for their commitment to going above and beyond and for organizing the end of the year effort as well as throughout the year in so many helpful and supportive ways!! Please know that our GRATITUDE is deep and sincere!
CLASS OF 2017 LEAVES STUNNING LEGACY
The Class of 2017 parent committee planned the perfect surprise for our Class of 2017 on the Monday that they returned home from their Washington D.C./Philadelphia 8th grade trip. All of the 8th graders waited outside in the hallway on the first floor until all arrived. Then suddenly, the doors were opened to the 8th grade community space, which had been totally renovated, painted and was aglow with new and exciting furniture in their Legacy Lounge. It was also a unique gift because before this class passed it on to the Class of 2018, they were able to enjoy the new space for 5 weeks until graduation.
A huge BRAVO to our parent volunteer Graduation Committee who planned, fund-raised, and worked tirelessly as a great team to organize the class gift and a truly spectacular graduation party that followed the graduation ceremony at the Carrollwood Country Club. The committee's work was filled with devotion to their children, their class and their appreciation for Corbett Prep. We were blessed to have their positive energy working to make the entire process special. Sincere gratitude to the entire class and every family for supporting the committee's effort financially and with gratitude. Class of 2017 families, you are wonderful and we will miss all of YOU!
CANDLELIGHT CEREMONY and MOVING-UP CEREMONY
Where Smiles, Tears and Joy Combine to Honor Transitions
On May 31, 2017, the Class of 2017 kicked off the morning assembly with our annual Candlelight Ceremony, which highlighted each 8th grader's last will and testament bequest, as they transition to high school. We all enjoyed their confidence, chosen thoughts about items to leave behind, their humor, sincerity and dedication to excellence. They set the bar high for the next classes who follow!
After the Candlelight Ceremony, the 8th grade left the assembly and the Moving-Up Ceremony began. Each class eagerly moved to their new seats for the 2017-18 school year proudly proclaiming "Class of ___" in unison. We began with the Class of 2018, who were trying to be patient before taking the lead at the top! By the time PreK3 had their turn to run to the PreK4 spot, we all knew that life continues and refuses to stand still. Once again, the Moving-Up Ceremony reminded all in Gatlin Hall that morning that life marches on ...mixed with smiles, tears and joy!
CORBETT PREP GRADUATION: ONE OF A KIND
On June 1, in the evening, in Gatlin Hall, the Class of 2017 took the stage for 90 minutes to share their experiences at Corbett Prep from PreK4 through 8th Grade. Stories were told that brought laughter, tears, smiles, joy, admiration, and gratitude from both the graduates and their proud families, friends, and teachers in the Gatlin Hall audience. Their stories included memories going back to PreK days, trips, mistakes turning into learning experiences, friendships, favorite events, sports, arts, learning in classrooms, gratitude to teachers and parents and miscellaneous memories. When the Class of 2017 completed sharing their memories, the President of the Board of Trustees, Jim Conlin, took the stage and spoke eloquently about their future and inspired all of us in attendance. Then Ms. Ripple called upon the graduates, one by one, to receive their medals from Dr. Swarzman and their diplomas from Mr. Conlin. It was a beautiful ceremony from start to finish...one where everyone had a chance to shine in his/her own way!
EARLY PRIMARY DIVISION
CLASSES OF 2025 AND 2026 MAKE EARLY MEMORIES
The Annual New Beginnings Ceremony, held in the Farish Center on May 31, 2017, is a beautiful tradition that holds the power to lift hearts and bring deep joy to parents, grandparents, and teachers, as our youngest proved once again that "little ones" can do big things both on and off stage. While 8th grade is preparing for a show-stopping graduation, PreK4 and Kindergarten are just beginning to dive into their futures with gusto and excitement! That day is sure to show up in 8th great favorite stories in another eight to nine years!!
LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
CONGRATULATIONS to ALL of OUR TEACHERS and STAFF FOR A FUN and INSPIRATIONAL MORNING! The last days of school were the perfect opportunity for students to engage in learning right until their last moments together. Upper Primary Division even received a gratitude letter for their labor of love in raising funds for good causes during their economics unit. Mr. Richter shared for all of the Cool Cats, Mighty Monkeys and Brilliant Bugs:
HEIFER'S READ TO FEED PROGRAM letter
"First of all, thank you to the students, parents and teachers at Corbett Prep for your continued support of Heifer's Read To Feed program. As I am sure you know, I always enjoy visiting your school and meeting the teachers and students. The children were so enthusiastic and engaged in our skit and had some excellent questions about Heifer. The amount of your contribution this year was overwhelming.
I have some exciting news that I hope you will be able to share with the students and the school before they begin their summer break. After I returned, I mailed your check with a cover letter and sent a copy to Kate Herndon, Heifer Community Engagement Manager, along with some photos from our Dan West skit last Thursday. Please see her reply:
I'm so excited for them to have their gift matched. As long as the check gets mailed with the letter that references Read to Feed, it'll get matched in full because we have another match going! I'm sure they'll love to hear it since they've worked so hard.
We did comply with this requirement as both the letter accompanying the check and your check for $1872 referenced RTF. Please advise your students, school administration and faculty that the matching gift now makes that contribution equal to $3,744. How cool is that!!! All the first and second graders should be very proud how they truly did make a big difference in the lives of others.
Happy summer, Dawn Trattner"
CORBETT PREP TEACHERS GEAR UP FOR 2017-18
After school finished on June 1, Teachers officially ended the school year on June 9th after participating in in-service, where we evaluate the "plusses and deltas" and use our findings to wind down the current year and gear-up for August 2017... which will be here before we know it. New online information systems called CANVAS and Senior Systems will be added and many more additions to keep us engaged in possibility thinking by honoring traditions and welcoming innovation!
Hats off to our entire faculty for their dedication to an Olympic Mentality, where the "best are always getting better" and for their willingness to always demonstrate team spirit, always learn, collaborate with colleagues, maintain a can-do positive attitude and give 120 percent – 100 percent of the time. We are all looking forward to an extraordinary 2017-18!
IN THIS JUNE MAILING, YOU WILL FIND
REPORT CARDS: Report cards are included in this final mailing and are for your records. Each report card has grades and comments from all trimesters. Another hard copy is kept in your child's school record file.
SAT TEST SCORES: (for 3rd through 8th grades) are included in the mailing. Every year we like to remind parents that this is just one assessment. Some students tend to vary from year to year, depending on their reaction to a test. Scores can be either inflated or unrelated to what the student can actually accomplish. Overall class performance on a day-to-day basis has equal significance when noting a child's potential. Test taking definitely comes easier to some more than others, so we rely on multiple ways to assess student progress.
SUMMER READING: This is a reminder that summer reading assignments and/or suggestions were sent home in your child's final Thursday folder May 25. If you are in need of another copy, please call the office at 813-961-3087. It's good to begin early! Summer is the perfect time to practice skills and read, read, read!!
BACK-TO-SCHOOL MAILING: Please be sure to look for your Back-to-School mailing on August 1. Many of the items will also be online. We will keep you up to date. Please continue to stay tuned-in through Heads' Letter emails, Facebook and Twitter. We are also here for you by phone almost 24/7, if you need anything!

CORBIN HAYES (ALUM, CLASS OF 2005) Proud parents Courtney and Craig Hayes wrote:
"Corbin will be getting his first music credit in a movie. Disney/Pixar's Cars 3 starts this month and the scene where his music begins is with the car 'Jackson Storm' right after he wins his first race and the interview. Jackson Storm starts backing up into a trailer and Corbin's music starts just before that (about 15 min into the movie). We will be waiting and watching the credits for his name! We want to thank IDS/Corbett Prep for a great education to lead him to his path!" ....Congratulations to Corbin...we remain proud of you always!
JACK HENRY NOUSS (ALUM, CLASS OF 2013) Kudos to Jack Henry for graduating from Jesuit High School, Magna Cum Laude and as the recipient of the one of four special awards, The Joseph P. Gavan Award presented to the student who has been outstanding in generosity and dependability in service to his school community! He will be attending Fordham University with an Army ROTC and Loyola Scholarships, but not until after he returns to Camp IDS as a summer lead counselor for the 5th year in a row!
